Merger control: Commission approves proposed acquisition of parts of Loparex by Mondi

The Commission has cleared the acquisition of certain assets of Loparex Holding B.V. (“Loparex”), of the Netherlands, by Mondi plc (“Mondi”), of South Africa. Loparex is active in the market for siliconized release liners and speciality papers in the Netherlands, Finland, the UK and the USA. The Loparex assets to be acquired by Mondi operate in the production of release liners, kraft paper and extrusion coating. Mondi is a global manufacturer of packaging paper, converted packaging products and uncoated fine paper and also owns merchant and newsprint operations. The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition will not create or strengthen such a dominant market position that would significantly impede effective competition in the EEA or in any substantial part thereof.
