The Commission has cleared the creation of a joint venture between Robert Bosch GmbH (“Bosch”), of Germany, and Samsung SDI Co. Ltd. (“Samsung”), of South Korea. Bosch is a global supplier of a wide range of technical products, inter alia, in the automotive sector. Samsung is active in the development, production and sale of electronic products worldwide. The joint venture between Bosch and Samsung will develop, produce and sell battery systems and mid- to large-sized energy storage devices based on lithium-ion technology for hybrid electric and electric vehicles. The Commission concluded that the proposed joint venture will not create or strengthen such a dominant market position that would significantly impede effective competition in the EEA or in any substantial part thereof.
