The federal bench in Orlando recently issued a “Show Cause Order” to nine lawyers from the Pantas Law Firm and Morgan & Morgan, P.A.. The Court noted that these firms have brought more than 1,000 wage and hour cases in the last several years. The strongly worded order reveals a level of frustration with the flood of wage and hour case filings, especially when the lawyers fail to follow the Court’s rules. Wage and hour cases have increased 200% during the past five years, and Florida leads the nation in filings. The Court required the employees’ lawyers to explain why they have repeatedly ignored the Court’s scheduling orders. The Court noted that it was considering sanctions, discipline, and even the possibility of banning these lawyers from filing future cases. Click here for the text of the order. Our firm’s employment group is currently defending a number of wage and hour cases statewide. We will continue to closely monitor this proceeding.
